KOIBIRD Autumn/Winter '21

KOIBIRD launch their new AW21 campaign 'KOIBIRD Hosts a Party'.

Marylebone Village concept store KOIBIRD's latest edit focuses on how, as the world slowly opens up and adapts, consumers have become more flexible in how they approach parties and pleasure.

After a period in which many celebrations were put on hold, a new sense of freedom is starting to emerge, with KOIBIRD’s AW21 edit looking to champion both the life of the party and the soul of the home. The notion of the traditional gathering has changed in 2021, with the cultural appetite for connection, conversation and community proving more palpable than ever.

KOIBIRD Hosts a Party establishes a customer’s role as the perfect host; animating their wardrobe with a distinctive approach to loungeable glamour, whilst simultaneously helping them curate a tablescape filled with kaleidoscopic homeware gems. Captured through the sumptuous lens of cult photographer Claire Rothstein, this season’s campaign showcases the best of new-age opulence with the brightest – and must have - cult partywear brands, perfect for today.

New York staple AREA leads the charge, rooting its offering within 1980s ballroom culture, a nightclub- friendly approach that has also been enlisted by emerging ‘prêt-à-party’ label Nué. Both brands, alongside Georgian favourites Mach & Mach and Anouki, celebrate the idea of ‘jewellery clothing’; prioritising complex crystal embellishments and bead-work, transforming contemporary partywear into wearable-couture. Sheer panels, feather trims and exaggerated tailoring; modernity blends seamlessly with nostalgia with Rodarte, George Keburia and Mother of All.

This ethos of indulgence weaves its way into Pierre Louis Masca’s luxe designs, which employ intricate floral collage techniques, baroque prints and jewel tones in ultra-soft wools and silks across apparel and homeware. Ukranian brand Sleeper’s powdery pastel hues and maribou trims act as a fitting climax to the edit’s perspective on accessorisable sleepwear.

Crochet gets a contemporary ‘knit’ lift thanks to Ami Amalia and Cormio both experimenting with complex intarsia and embroidery techniques to help manipulate print and form. This atypical approach to contemporary knitwear design is shared by Paris-based designer Rowen Rose, whose argyle motifs, cable knits and tweed compositions re-imagine traditional eveningwear under the guise of the American yuppie. Dynamic practices aren’t just resigned to RTW, with emerging jewellery label Completedworks championing recycled, reclaimed and fair trade gold.

Reductionism is, however, a fleeting notion amongst this season’s accessories offering, where more is more (and we like it like that). Gedebe’s jewelled knee-high boots bring the drama, as does Giannico’s 18th century- inspired satin mules and Benedetta Bruzziches’s abstract clutch bags. Ashley Williams is the queen of kitsch designing cherry-adorned hair pins and crystal heart earrings acts as a fitting palate cleanser to a RTW season that has one foot already on the dancefloor.

KOIBIRD’s AW21 homeware edit will leave you (and any guest) hungry for more, blurring the lines between interiors and art. Gaetano Pesce’s iconic Fish design makes its mark across a saturated selection of pigmented resin placemats and vases that eschew traditional moulds or decals. NY-based label Upstate’s hand-dyed tableware and Pia Hof Glass’s free-form approach to contemporary glass-blowing work to offer the perfect interior twist. Milanese designer Serena Confalioneri’s architectural Champagne flutes combine structure and geometry that is echoed by Nordic brand Hubsch’s razor sharp crystal candle holders. Sculptural mirror brands House of J and Lotta Blobs help round off an arsenal of design-led interior treasures, with the former constructing each bespoke piece from 100% vegan yarn.

In keeping with KOIBIRD’s typically flamboyant DNA, Stories of Italy, Paris-based designer Marie Daâge and lockdown-born label Vaisselle all blend abstract colourways with bright ginghams and tie-dye prints across a series of porcelain, ceramic & glass tableware. Kim Seybert’s iridescent coaster sets, sunset- hued serviettes and glitter napkin rings offer a similarly playful approach to modern home design, mirrored in part by Elizabeth Lake’s egg-yolk tablecloths and Abbie Walsh’s exclusive capsule collection of embroidered table linen.

Chefanie brings erotica to traditional dinnerware in the form of kama sutra & disco ball embroidered linen. The label’s handmade 3-D floral candle sets also help to introduce an extensive candleware edit to the AW21 season from brands including Regimes Des Fleurs and VIISIIONSS. Candlehand and Wavey Casa take a more subversive route, with gestural shapes and ‘F*** It’ slogans.

Anna Weatherly, Tata Naka and Mou Mou all help to even the keel with a softer selection of hand-painted table displays. Delicate execution threads its way into Tamar Mogendorf, For Restless Sleepers and Pierre Louis-Masca’s lavish cushions and quilts, helping to conclude a distinctive interiors offering that raises a hot-pink champagne glass to the homes we so carefully cultivated throughout lockdown.

KOIBIRD's Marylebone Village store is now open with a whole new look - find them at 62 Marylebone Lane, London, W1U 2PB.
